Michael Conlan’s take on what a McGregor win would do for boxing is… interesting

Michael Conlan knows better than most of us the scale of the task that Conor McGregor will face on August 26.

It really wouldn't make any sense if Conor McGregor, a boxing debutante, defeated Floyd Mayweather, one of the best boxers of all time with his undefeated record in the game. Of course, there are those who are daring to believe that the impossible might actually happen, but Michael Conlan, speaking on Second Captains Podcast, put a dampener on these thoughts. Conlan spoke logically, he spoke with his head and it's impossible to argue with him.

"It's a fight that is almost impossible...I really like Conor, but Floyd has been impossible to beat. The more I think of it, the more I go, I don't think so.

Conlan feels that Mayweather's decision to come out of retirement to fight the UFC star will turn out to be one of the best moves in his career, from both a financial, and a professional perspective. "He's just very boxing smart. This is probably going to be the smartest move he's ever made in his sporting career, because it'll be the easiest money he's ever made. If he wins so easy, like everybody's saying he's going to. https://twitter.com/SecondCaptains/status/890238500745990144 Naturally because McGregor is Irish, Conlan wants him to trounce the American but he just can't see past the canny and defensive Mayweather. The Belfast man's take on what a McGregor win would do for the sport was the most interesting part of the interview, however. Naturally, many believe that it would be a disaster for boxing if one of the best in their game loses to a rookie. Conlan doesn't see it like that. "I hope he (Mayweather) loses. Everything's on the map (If McGregor wins,) the whole world is going to want to get involved in boxing. People who aren't involved in boxing are going to be like, well if he can beat Floyd Mayweather, I can beat Floyd Mayweather...There's a lot more hype around the sport again."
