United are without Wayne Rooney for the Champions League opener against PSV Eindhoven and, while new signing Anthony Martial seems more likely to get the nod, Young has put himself forward for Van Gaal to put him as a forward.
The Guardian quotes former Aston Villa man Young as saying: 'I can play in lots of positions and I have done that under the manager, whether it is up front or in midfield. Hopefully I can play there [through the middle] but it’s up to the manager.'
