The Gabonese forward, who linked up well with Mkhitaryan when he was at Dortmund, is said to be on the brink of leaving the Bundesliga with Ivan Gazidis in Germany to try and get the deal over the line.
Although reports have suggested Dortmund are demanding a fee in excess of £55m for Aubameyang, it's now being claimed that another swap deal could be in the offing. According to German publication Kicker, Olivier Giroud could move in the opposite direction.
Unlike the Mkhitaryan-Sanchez deal, this will not be a straight player-for-player swap. Instead, Giroud is expected to be offered as a makeweight to bring down the overall cost of Aubameyang.
Giroud is said to be open to a move to Dortmund in a bid to help secure a place in the France squad at next summer's World Cup.Explore more on these topics:
