Brendan Rodgers fails to use the ‘C’ word once when asked how he chose Liverpool’s new captain

Not even once.

We just can't believe it. Brendan Rodgers has managed to do an entire interview without mentioning the outstanding 'character' of his new Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson. The former Sunderland man has taken over 'The Armband' from Steven Gerrard and in an interview with Liverpool FC TV the Reds manager has explained why he chose the England player for the role. The Irishman could have just said that because he was the vice-captain last year then he would be first in line to replace Gerrard, but Rodgers of course had to put his own hyperbolic spin on it.

"It was going to take somebody who is going to be strong-willed and has a strong mentality, but is also a wonderful role model. (We both share a love for One Direction) "Obviously Jordan was one of the players that I thought about, but once I saw him grow and develop as the vice-captain then I felt pretty sure that this would be the season he could be the captain. (I was hardly going to give it to Mignolet) "He has taken to the role very well. He’s had a perfect role model in Stevie, he’s been on the shoulder of Stevie for a year to see how it all works and he’ll have picked up a lot from him. (Don't f**kin slip and you'll be fine) "Like I said to him when I told him he would eventually be the captain – 'have your own ideas, have your own ways of doing it and do it your way'. (You don't do anything without asking me or Ian Ayre first) "He’s an outstanding player and I think you’ll see him really blossom with that captaincy." (???)
