There is no smoke without fire and Horgan has admitted that he wouldn't be able to ignore any approaches from a club like the Magpies if they were to make official moves to get the deal done.
Currently on international duty ahead of Ireland's World Cup Qualifier with Austria at the weekend, Horgan was asked about the transfer rumour and if there's any truth to the links.
“I don’t know, really," he is quoted as saying by Chronicle Live.
“To be honest with you, I try to stay out of it as much as I possibly can.
“Look, it’s very easy to say you’re interested; it’s very different to put at offer on the table and at the minute, there are no offers on the table.
“I’m a Dundalk player, I’m very happy at Dundalk but as I said, if an offer does come in from somewhere, I’d have to consider it, especially something like a massive club like Newcastle.”
