With a reported interest in Brentford's David Raya earlier in the window, it now appears though that the Red Devils favour Onana.
The 27-year-old is reportedly seen by the club's hierarchy as a better fit for ten Hag's style of play, with Onana having played under the Dutchman at Ajax.
Onana reached last season's Champions League final with Inter Milan, and was their star performer in their 1-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City.
Despite this form which saw him keep 19 clean sheets in all competitions last season, Inter are reportedly keen to offload Onana just one year on from his arrival due to the club's financial struggles.
According to ESPN, the Milan club have a set a fee of between €45 - €55 million for the shot-stopper, who was last month described as being in "the top five goalkeepers in the world" by Italian legend Gianluigi Buffon.
