David Moyes fines Andy Carroll for storming down the tunnel

Andy Carroll has been punished for storming down the tunnel last weekend.

Carroll did not take kindly to West Ham manager David Moyes' decision to leave him on the bench while Manchester City ran riot at the London Stadium on Sunday. The Hammers centre-forward felt as though he should have been sent on to try to affect the game and when Moyes instead opted to throw on the trio of Joao Mario, Javier Hernandez and Arthur Masuaku in the 65th minute, Carroll immediately stormed off the bench and marched down the tunnel. Reports from the training ground the next day claimed that Carroll and Moyes were involved in a heated discussion about the incident and the West Ham boss has since revealed that he'd decided to fine the striker. "I would like to deal with the situation regarding Andy Carroll that came out of our game against Manchester City," Moyes wrote in his Evening Standard column. "Initially, I wasn’t aware that he had left the bench and I didn’t hear what had happened until after the game. I just believe strongly that everyone is part of the team and everyone has to show that all the time, especially at this time of the season. "I was really disappointed in Andy. I don’t believe there was any excuse for what he did. He’s been fined but he has apologised, both to me and the players, and I think he understands it was wrong. The following day we had a discussion in the office at Rush Green. I told him it was unacceptable and sent him away. Within an hour, it seemed, it was out there for public consumption, which is also disappointing. Things go on all the time at clubs and there needs to be some privacy. "To be fair, Andy texted me later and apologised. I told him he needed to come in the following day and speak to me and the players and he did that. Since then, he’s been back training."
