Perhaps neither are a true reflection of how United supporters actually feel, who are sick of the manager and somewhat wary of his assistant coach. The majority of polls on the subject have Jose Mourinho as the preferred choice.
Uruguayan Diego Forlan, a cult figure at the club, despite his somewhat mixed career at Old Trafford between 2002 and 2004, has finally said what everyone is thinking and put his backing behind the jobless Portuguese.
Forlan was speaking exclusively to 888sport about Fernando Torres and the return leg of Atletico Madrid v Barcelona, in addition to his former club United.
And when asked about the best man for the Old Trafford hotseat, the 36-year-old Penarol forward was frank:
"I think with what they have gone through in the past two years [Manchester] United would be better to have a coach with [Jose] Mourinho’s experience," he said.
