Emotional Adam Johnson has been describing his illicit meetings with schoolgirl

Adam Johnson took to the stand to offer his defence on Monday afternoon.

The former England and Sunderland footballer was called to give evidence as his trial on two charges of sexual activity with a child continued. Johnson admitted earlier today that "he knew it was wrong" to kiss a 15-year-old, and was emotional while in the stand at the Bradford court. "I wanted to [kiss her] and I wasn't thinking clearly, how I should have been," Johnson said. "I know it was so wrong but at the time I sort of enjoyed it so I still got caught up in it texting after.". The 28-year-old admitted to kissing the girl, and enjoying it, but regretting sending her messages. He denied the charge he is on trial for. "I didn't do what she is saying."When asked about the first meeting between the pair, Johnson said: "We were chatting and I think she said 'why are we still talking for? I've come for the thank you kiss' and then the kiss happened." Johnson admitted to enjoying the kiss, and when asked about his thoughts following the encounter said: "I had all sorts of things going on in my head at the time. I was thinking, 'what am I doing, I have so much to lose, I am outside of a well populated area and if anyone saw me'. I had all sorts going on." But Johnson claimed that he had no intention of seeing the girl again after their second meeting. "I know it was so wrong but at the time I sort of enjoyed it so I still got caught up in it texting after." "After the second meeting I said a lot of things after that were never going to happen and I said them just by words and texting. But after that second meeting I never went back and I was never going to." "I wasn't a good person. I shouldn't have done that. I can't think of the words for how bad I feel about it." The trial continues.
