Frank de Boer has long been a manager of interest for clubs looking to appoint a progressive, modern coach.
The former Dutch international defender, who played more than 400 times for his boyhood club and also had spells with Barcelona and Rangers, had been in charge at the Amsterdam ArenA since 2010.
He was a target for Liverpool when they appointed Brendan Rodgers and was again linked with Anfield when Rodgers was sacked last year.
De Boer was also heavily linked with Tottenham before they opted to appoint Mauricio Pochettino in the summer of 2014.
But now the 45-year-old, who led Ajax to four Eredivisie titles but lost out to PSV in the last two seasons, has decided to move to pastures new.

In years past, there would have been plenty of potential suitors for the young manager, though the options are a little more limited these days.

There have been a few more ambitious suggestions

But he could always just wait a year.

After all, with the form he has for bringing through talented players, surely someone will be interested before too long.

But Goodison Park seems like De Boer's most likely next destination with the Dutchman currently 4/6 to replace Roberto Martinez.
