Gary Lineker reveals his choice for next England manager

The fallout from England's disastrous Euro 2016 campaign continues.

Following an embarrassing 2-1 defeat to Iceland in the round of 16, everyone has chimed in with their thoughts on what went wrong for the Three Lions. Alan Shearer has said his piece (and then some), Jamie Carragher has called the Academy generation as "too soft", fans have asked for captain Wayne Rooney to retire. One way or another, it's going to be all change for the England football team going forward. England manager Roy Hodgson resigned from his post immediately after the 2-1 loss, sparking conversation of who would be the new England boss. The thought of England U-21 boss Gareth Southgate taking over has proved... less than popular, but with options limited, a number of former stars have pitched in with who they think should be the next England boss. Harry Redknapp has already suggested Tim Sherwood, Carragher has already sounded off on why Shearer would be a bad choice, and now Gary Lineker has entered the fray. The Match of the Day presenter went on record this week to say he believes Glenn Hoddle would be the perfect choice for the England job. "You could go down the route of a foreigner, but that has not worked before," Lineker said on BBC 5Live. "We were really unlucky with Fabio Capello - Italians are so good at tactics and we found the one who probably wasn't, according to the players that I have spoken to who played under him. "If you go English, it is really difficult. There are two or three in the top flight, Sam Allardyce, Eddie Howe and Alan Pardew - but they have not won the trophies you would anticipate "Do you go back to perhaps Glenn Hoddle? He was one of England's best coaches. "Hoddle has been out of the game for a while, but he understands the game technically. He is the kind of guy who understands how to get over to players how to play in various systems." Hoodle was England manager between 1996-1999, taking the side to the last 16 round of THE 1998 World Cup in France.  Hoddle's 60% win rate during his spell as manager is only bettered by Sir Alf Ramsey and Fabio Capello. He was removed from his post partway through the Euro 2000 qualifying campaign following comments made regarding disabled people in controversial interview with The Times.
