‘It’s like coming home’ – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer interviewed as Manchester United manager

New Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that the Manchester club is the biggest in football with the best players.

Solskjaer was announced on Wednesday as the club's caretaker manager until the end of the season after United parted ways with former boss Jose Mourinho on Tuesday. Solskjaer will be supported in his new role by assistants Mike Phelan and Michael Carrick and he said in his first interview as the club's new manager that he bases a lot of what he tries to do in management on what he learned from Alex Ferguson during his playing days at Old Trafford.

“Man United is the model, family, tradition, history, giving youth a chance, attacking football and winning," Solskjaer told MUTV. "Biggest club in the world, best club in the world, best supporters in the world, we’ve got the best players in the world. "It’s about man management, getting the best out of everyone. I had the best teacher (Sir Alex). Loads of my management revolves around what I learned from him. He’s been the biggest influence."

Solskjaer managed the United reserves after retiring from football in 2007 and won the Lancashire Senior Cup in 2008. https://twitter.com/ManUtd/status/1075820612759609344 During his time with the reserves he came across current United stars Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford and he said that it's been great to see how they have progressed over the past few years.

“I understand this club, I know the club. Being in the gaffer’s seat is very special," the Norwegian added.

“I remember I gave Jesse his debut in the reserves. I had Paul, he was that special talent. Marcus we knew about. He was just on his way up. They’re the three that I’ve seen from them being kids. It’s great to see them playing now as well as they’re doing.”

Solskjaer will take charge of his first match as United manager on Saturday when the Red Devils take on his former side Cardiff in the Welsh capital.
