McClean hopes he hasn't played his last game in the League of Ireland as he revealed on RTÉ Radio’s Sunday Sport that he aims to finish up his career at Derry City. He explained that was the vow he made the day he left the club, one that he intends to uphold.
"Derry is where I started and that's where I would like to end my career." "It's a club that holds a special place in my heart. On the day I left Derry City to join Sunderland I said it's the place I want to end my career. Hopefully they'll have me."He went even further, adding that a return as a player wouldn't be the only thing that would interest him, he would also consider taking charge of the club as a manager.
"To be manager of my hometown club means a lot to me. I'd be liar if I said it was something that didn't interest me."
