Jamie Carragher jokes ex-Liverpool man Conor Coady is a ‘turncoat’ after joining Everton

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has joked that Conor Coady is a 'turncoat' after signing for Everton, with the defender coming through the Reds' academy. Coady made two senior appearances for Liverpool before leaving Anfield for Huddersfield Town in 2014. He then signed for Wolves one year later. After spending seven years with Wolves, the England international made the decision to leave the club and join Frank Lampard's side on a season-long loan. Carragher, a Reds icon who supported Everton growing up, was quick to poke fun at Coady, posting a picture of the pair in Liverpool shirts on Instagram. The Sky Sports pundit posted a photo of the new Toffees signing wearing Liverpool colours earlier in his career, along with the caption: "Turncoat! Good luck." Coady joins fellow centre-back James Tarkowski, former Wolves teammate Ruben Vinagre and forward Dwight McNeil at Goodison Park. The Toffees have also completed the signing of midfielder Amadou Onana from Lille on a five-year deal. His return to Merseyside comes at a good time for Everton with Ben Godfrey ruled out for three months after fracturing a fibula against Chelsea at the weekend, and Yerry Mina facing a scan on an ankle injury.

Coady 'wanted to be part of it straight away'

After his move to Everton was confirmed, the defender said that he was 'over the moon' to sign for the Toffees and that he 'knows what the club means to the fans'.

He said: "It's incredible to join Everton. As soon as I heard the interest, from the manager but also the Football Club itself, I really wanted to be part of it straight away. I'm over the moon to join.

"I've grown up around the city, I know the football club, how big this club is and what it means to the supporters. I'm someone who was desperate to come here, to play for this club. I've got family and friends who are massive Evertonians."
