Speaking to Record, the Portuguese publication, Mourinho clarified that following Rui Faria's departure, he would be appointing someone who was not Portuguese as his new number two. He also added the individual could not be named for the time being as they are currently attached to another club.
"It’s a person coming who worked with me before but I can’t say the name because he’s still linked to another club," he said.
Many were quick to point out that former England captain Terry, who has helped steer Aston Villa to a Championship play-off final, meets the criteria.

It was announced last week that Faria, who has worked alongside Mourinho for 17 years, was leaving Old Trafford to pursue new opportunities. Although the United boss appeared to initially rule out replacing him - saying that Michael Carrick's move to the coaching staff would help fill the void - his latest comments appear to indicate he's changed his mind on the matter.
United play their final game of the season at Wembley on Saturday afternoon, taking on Chelsea in the FA Cup final. We're pretty sure Terry's loyalties will still lie with his former club.Explore more on these topics:
