According to the Independent, the Portuguese manager has also outlined his intentions for the club if he is appointed, even going as far as suggesting potential new signings.
Mourinho's representative, Jorge Mendes, is said to have contacted the United board to discuss his client's future.
Whereas some more of the board are more open to the idea of appointing Mourinho than they were when Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, the report claims that there are still concerns from some of United's board members about whether he would be a good fit for the club.
