Evra says it wasn't his fault

After making comments against Paris Saint-Germain that were condemned as homophobic, Patrice Evra has posted a video apology online before taking aim at the French media. The former defender filmed himself in a taxi describing Manchester United's Champions League win over PSG, stating the French club "are some f****ts" and "p*****s". After an official PSG statement condemned Evra's actions as "shocking the heart of this club", he apologised.

"I am here to clarify a massive, massive misunderstanding, we have to shut it down really quickly," said the 37-year-old on Twitter. "So I made a video as a joke and the French media took it because I used the word [f****ts] so they translated it as I'm against gay people. I'm not homophobic because you know who I am, I love this game, I love everyone, so if I offended someone or hurt someone, I really apologise. "But you know it's not my intention, they are just trying to put me down."

It was later deleted. "I would never judge anyone, my mother raised me and educated me that way and only God can judge me," he added. "So why? We should be together, you need to make the world a better place so please stop this negativity, you will never shut me down. This is a massive message for the French media because they always twist my words. "I'm not playing anymore with the national team so what's wrong with you? Your life is so boring. Why are you trying to put my video everywhere? "I don't want you to put my video of positive energy [online] because you are such negative people."
