Liverpool have blamed the Premier League for their decision to fly back from Newcastle after they were criticised on social media for taking the 33-minute journey.
The Reds were involved in the late kick off as they scored two in quick succession via Darwin Núñez and Cody Gakpo to keep their faint hopes of a top four finish alive.
Although it was an important win for Jürgen Klopp's side, they didn't escape criticism after opting to take the 145 mile journey by air, with flight tracking websites showing a chartered plane arriving at Liverpool John Lennon Airport at 9.37pm on Saturday evening following their 5.30pm kick-off at St James' Park.
They were in the air for just 33 minutes and given that the game had finished at 7:20pm, question marks were asked as to why they felt the need to fly, especially after travelling by coach to the north east before the game.
"Taking a 33 minute flight from Newcastle to Liverpool is crazy," wrote one fan.

Another said: "No prem Club should ever have to fly to a game. A few hours on a train or bus isn't exactly taxing."
Sport Positive named Liverpool as the greenest club in 2022 and praised them for their work in the community and for signing up to the UN Sports for Climate Action pledge.
They also recently celebrated becoming the first Premier League team to be awarded the British Standards Institute certificate for sustainability.
The Mirror have revealed that the decision to fly back from Newcastle was due to the short turnaround before the Reds' Champions League fixture against Real Madrid on Tuesday night and questioned their decision to schedule the game against the Magpies 72 hours before their Anfield showdown.
