Liverpool preparing to play some ‘home’ games away from Anfield next season

Liverpool may be about to find out as renovation works at Anfield could cause the club some serious fixture headaches next season. The club is currently rushing to have the extension to the main stand at the iconic football stadium ready for the beginning of next season. Work is expected to be completed on time for August and the beginning of the new Premier League season, but it is being reported this morning that the club are taking precautions in case the build is not finished on time. Jurgen Klopp’s side still retain an outside hope of making the top four and a Champions League spot, while more realistically they will face Europa League football again next season. If they do qualify for the Thursday night football extravaganza, it may mean that some of their early 'home' games could be played away from Anfield, especially if they are pitched in at the third qualifying round which takes place in late July and early August. The Guardian newspaper understands Liverpool have asked their first two Premier league games of next season be away from Merseyside, while if they do face any European games in July, the home leg may be played at Wigan or Bolton's home ground, while Ewood Park, the home of Blackburn Rovers, is also an option.
