But the Reds seem to come alive against the bigger teams, having racked up 20 points in the mini-league being fought out by six sides at the top of the table, with their draw against Manchester City on Sunday their last encounter with top six opposition for this campaign.
Between now and the end of the season, Liverpool will face Everton (H), Bournemouth (H), Stoke City (A), West Brom (A), Crystal Palace (H), Watford (A), Southampton (H), West Ham (A) and Middlesbrough (H).
On paper, that's not the most daunting run-in and is arguably the most favourable when you look at the remaining fixtures of Liverpool's rivals for the top four.
But supporters are more than a little aware that that points aren't won paper, especially when you're Liverpool.
