Casemiro's neck grab can't be seen in the footage, with a body of players and a camera blocking the incident.
As the footage continues, Casemiro and Hughes can be seen hugging and laughing with each other, suggesting that the neck grab may not have been as vicious as it initially looked.
Another angle shown on Match of the Day showed the Brazilian grabbing his Palace counterpart by the shirt - not the neck - with pundit Alan Shearer describing the dismissal as "harsh".
"I thought it was a harsh red card because there's a melee in the corner, you can see everybody coming together. There's pushing and shoving and grabbing and everything else," he said.
"Then the referee's actually sent to the screen. Watch the referee when he goes to the screen, the angle that he's shown, he's shown a still, he's shown it in slow motion in that position and that angle.
"But there's another angle where it doesn't look anywhere near as bad. This angle on here. He can see it there closely, he's got hold of him, he's got hold of him yes. By the shirt rather than round the neck."
Erik ten Hag has confirmed that United are weighing up the idea of appealing the decision, however they will need to do so before the Red Devils' game against Leeds on Wednesday.
