According to Duncan Castles, the 20-year-old midfielder has impressed Mourinho on United's pre-season tour.
McTominay was also part of United's squad for the final five fixtures of the Premier League season, when Mourinho was resting players for the Europa League. He started on the final day of last season against Crystal Palace.
According to Castles, McTominay has undergone a growth spurt in the last 18 months, growing from 5ft6 to 6ft3, which may help explain why Mourinho sees a place for him in the first-team squad.
The midfielder scored his first senior goal for United during last Sunday's friendly victory over Norwegian side Valerenga.
