Shockingly Peterborough legend Barry Fry wasn’t slow to tell Martin O’Neill about Chris Forrester

They're all outside bets to make the Euro 2016 squad, but it's still a proud moment for the trio.

Martin O'Neill named three new faces in his provisional 40-man squad for the upcoming friendlies against Switzerland and Slovakia. The Republic of Ireland manager included Aberdeen winger Jonathan Hayes, Wolverhampton Wanderers' defender Matt Doherty and Peterborough United midfielder, and former St Patrick's Athletic star, Chris Forrester in the long list of names. The talented 23 year old has made a seamless transition from Irish domestic football to League One, and the Ireland manager says he has been monitoring his progress. "He's done very well. I watched one of the games he played in, and the reports have been pretty good." "I've had a voice message from [Peterborough director of football] Barry Fry to tell me how brilliant he is."24-year-old Doherty is the other new player included in the panel, following a productive season with Wolves. O'Neill says the new call-ups are in his plans. However, barring injuries to key players, it's unlikely the trio will make the Euro 2016 squad.
