Michael Carrick thinks Marcus Rashford shouldn’t receive all the plaudits for Arsenal victory

Marcus Rashford isn't the only youngster who should be getting credit for Manchester United's win over Arsenal, according to Michael Carrick.

Carrick praised the striker for bagging a brace against the Gunners in the 3-2 win, but Carrick believes some of the love should be reserved for fullback Guillermo Varela. The 22-year-old was tasked with the difficult challenge of marking Alexis Sanchez, and although he received an early booking, he manged to keep the Chilean star relatively quiet during the match. Carrick also had some kind words to say about Tim Fosu-Mensah, the 18-year-old who came on for Rojo in the second half, speaking to the Mirror.

“Obviously Marcus is going to get the headlines but I thought Guilly was terrific at right-back and especially after getting a yellow card against somebody like Sanchez."

"He was my wing-man and my support just outside of me! I thought Timmy did well when he came on - to come on in a game like that at left-back which is not really his position."

Carrick admitted, however, that Rashford's recent form has given the team something to be hopeful of. He explained that the youngster's stellar performances have given the players and fans alike a much needed boost.

"There are so many positives to take from it." "I think there was a real togetherness in the squad and I think the fans responded to that. Seeing somebody like Marcus doing what he has done this week has given everybody a huge boost, so it is great to see everybody so happy."
