Mick McCarthy gave us some of our best moments supporting Ireland.
2002 was iconic. Beating Holland along the way, historic. Losing to Spain on penalties after completely outplaying them in the knockout rounds, heart-warming and never to be forgotten.
And don't get me wrong, McCarthy will use his back catalogue at will to show off his credentials whilst covering a live Ireland game but, for some reason, during the Finland Nations League match, he has found himself caught up with a very meek result.
23rd of March, 2019. Who could forget it?
Gibraltar 0-1 Ireland
Mick McCarthy seems really proud of it, if his constant references to it are anything to go by.
During his first game on his return as Ireland manager, a 49th minute Jeff Hendrick goal was all that the Irish mustered in a very underwhelming opening to an even more underwhelming campaign.
McCarthy remembers it well though. Jeff Hendrick looks forward, he remembers his goal in Gibraltar. Darren Randolph makes a save, he remembers the save in Gibraltar that spared their blushes.

And it's very much something that a lot of people noticed.

This is a very dangerous idea.

And, incredibly, it wasn't even his best result over Gibraltar. Imagine that?
