But the Football Manager fanatic's career received a lifeline after he received copy of the most recent game from his girlfriend Stephanie on Valentine's Day - with a few restrictions.
The game came with a contract attached, laying out ground rules such as his girlfriend's ability to re-introduce the ban if she decides the game 'is ruining her life', which seems fair to us. We're less supportive of the idea that the game is completed if Shaun manages to win the double or the Champions League.
