Premier League clubs instructed to return to ’emergency’ Covid-19 measures

Clubs will need to comply with the measures from Wednesday

The Premier League has informed its 20 clubs that they need to return to emergency measures after new Covid rules were announced in England. Some clubs with high vaccination rates had relaxed some of the measures - which were brought in at the start of the season - but they must now reintroduce the restrictions to help limit the spread of the Omicron variant. However, the Premier League has not revealed exactly how many clubs had been able to relax the measures. Included in the latest protocols is wearing masks in indoor areas, medical staff are required to wear full PPE when in contact with players and therapy taking no longer than 15 minutes. https://twitter.com/danroan/status/1469020331402792968 The updated rules follow UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson's announcement that the government was introducing 'Plan B' to fight the spread of Omicron on Wednesday.

Johnson has made it mandatory for fans to show proof of double vaccination or a negative test to attend sporting events with crowds of more than 10,000 people in England.

All Premier League clubs will be required to comply with the measures from Wednesday.

Following a Covid-19 outbreak within the first-team squad, Tottenham's Europa Conference League match against Rennes on Thursday was cancelled after eight players and five members of staff tested positive for coronavirus. 

Tottenham's Premier League match at Brighton on Sunday has also been postponed.

As well as this, a number of Leicester players did not travel to Italy for their Europa League group game against Napoli on Thursday because of positive Covid-19 tests.
