REPORT: Mario Gotze won’t be signing for Liverpool this summer

Jurgen Klopp's ambitious plan to get a World Cup winner to sign for Liverpool appears to have failed.

The German is about to begin a major clear out of Anfield this summer, and was hoping to make room for a player who not so long ago was rated as one of the best young players on the continent. Mario Gotze scored the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final, but he has lost much of his vim and vigour over the past two injury hit seasons at Bayern Munich. With the departure of Pep Guardiola this summer it was expected the former Borussia Dortmund player would be seeking a move elsewhere and Liverpool looked almost like a perfect fit. Klopp was his former mentor at Dortmund, and according to various sources, the Liverpool manager was doing his best to sweet talk Gotze into moving to Merseyside, with a fee of around £20 million mentioned. However, those dreams of seeing Gotze in red next season appear to be over according to German gossip bible Bild.
