But alas these things happen. Sevilla have stunning recent pedigree in the competition and in the end no one could deny that they were worthy winners of what was once the UEFA Cup.
Understandably, there was tears both on and off the pitch. The television cameras happened to focus in one Liverpool supporter in particular and within minutes he was trending on the internet.
Little did/does he know that rival fans everywhere was gleefully sharing his tearful image, and using it to mock his defeated team. Just look at some of the tweets below, the cruel buggers...
