Roy Keane throws down the gauntlet to Antony and demands more goals

"He’s got to get in there a little bit more."

Roy Keane has thrown down the gauntlet to Manchester United's Antony after the winger put in a great performance against Nottingham Forrest. The Brazilian has been struggling to adjust to life in the Premier League since making his move from Ajax, and has came under criticism from pundits and fans. Antony managed to score his first league goal since October, bagged an assist for United's second, and delivered the kind of performance that the Old Trafford faithful had been hopeful to see more of. Keane never pulled his punches when it came to criticising the attacker, but this time he decided to go a different route and challenged the young star to be more consistent.

"It’s vital to get those types of goals. We’ve been critical and he’s got to get in there a little bit more and have that hunger and desire. "As skilful as he is, these are important moments. To get on the end of it and get a tap in, it’s a big moment for him. We saw the brilliance of him for the second goal, but doing the basics like following shots, players have got to do that because these are big moments.

"Liverpool won the league and Salah scored 30 goals, that’s where he needs to get to. He needs to score more goals. "I just remember the goals that Salah and Mane used to score at Liverpool, or Sterling and other players for Manchester City. "They always get in at the far post when the ball is on the opposite side, and Sancho and Antony have to do that better. Antony did so well for the goal, but you see where Sancho is now, he’s got to get into a goalscoring position." United play Sevilla this Thursday in the Europa League, which will be the next chance for Antony to prove himself. Related links:
