Roy Keane cracks Joey Barton gag in end of year football quiz

Roy Keane and Ian Wright teamed up to take on Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher in an end-of-season football quiz, which got pretty competitive. On a special episode of the Stick to Football show, Neville and Carragher took on Keane and Wright in a quiz hosted by comedian Paddy McGuinness. Before we get to Keane's tongue-in-cheek gag, some background on Joey Barton and the growing number of women involved in men's football. Earlier this month, the former Manchester City and Newcastle midfielder went on a social media rant, declaring, 'Women shouldn’t be talking with any kind of authority in the men’s game. Come on.

"Let’s be serious. It’s a completely different game. If you don’t accept that. We will always see things differently. The women’s game is thriving. Fantastic to see. I cannot take a thing they say serious in the men’s arena."

He followed up this original post with another, saying: “Any man who sits and engages with them in this regard has sold out. The game is about levels. Most men’s opinion has little value. Never mind anyone else… Any man who listens to Women commentary or co-comms needs their heads testing." Back to the football quiz. One of the questions, in a head-to-head round, saw McGuinness ask the elder footballing statesmen whether Chelsea boss Emma Hayes and ex-Everton manager David Moyes spent longer at their respective club. As Keane and Wright mulled over their answer, Neville suggested that they “phone a friend” for help. Keane was on the comment in a snap. He replied:

"I might ring Joey Barton. Joey would know!"

As the laughter died down, Wright got his phone out and made a quick call. The former England international got Emma Hayes on the phone. Hayes is leaving Chelsea at the end of the season to become manager of the US Women's National Team. This, she confirmed, would be her 12th and final season with Chelsea. "That'll do us, Ems," said Wright. The pair went with Hayes as their answer and were correct [Moyes was Toffees boss for 11 seasons}.

The quiz ended up being a tight one, but Roy Keane and Ian Wright came up big when asked to name players with over 100 Premier League goals. There was a mini controversy when Wright claimed they had offered Thierry Henry as an answer when they had not, at that point. "Oh," Jamie Carragher exclaimed, "the cheating starts!"
