Steven Gerrard: “I’d never call myself a legend”

He achieved plenty throughout an accomplished Liverpool career, but Steven Gerrard isn't comfortable with being labelled a legend.

Speaking ahead of his appearance for a Liverpool Legends XI in Sydney (yes, the irony isn't lost of us), the former club captain said he was "flattered" by the tag, but would never use it himself.

“I don’t think as a player yourself you ever use the word or connect yourself with the term,” Gerrard told Liverpoolfc.com.

"I would never call myself one or see myself as one, but it is nice to look back and see that you have contributed to the history of this football club and that’s what it’s all about,” Gerrard added.

The 35-year-old won the Champions League, UEFA Cup, Super Cup, FA Cup, League Cup and Community Shield during nearly two decades with his hometown club.
