Steven Gerrard jokes that the riches on offer in China could make him reconsider retirement

It's hardly a secret that Steven Gerrard's playing career is reaching an end, but it now appears that the former Liverpool captain could be entering his final season. Writing in The Telegraph, Gerrard suggests that although no final decisions have been made, he is considering retiring at the end of the MLS season, which begins on March 6. "Nothing is 100 per cent certain yet," Gerrard writes, "but this season at LA Galaxy could be my last as a professional footballer."Looking to life after his playing career, Gerrard also adds that he intends to entering coaching when he does decide to call time on his playing days. "I am starting my UEFA ‘A’ license shortly and the Football Association are proving to be proactive and hugely encouraging in helping former players onto the coaching ladder." "I was invited to meet the England Under 19 side earlier in the season and further opportunities are planned in future international breaks." "I know players like Rio Ferdinand and Jamie Carragher have received similar invitations. It’s something I'm keen to push further." Adding that he is enjoying life in California, Gerrard claims that he hopes to have earned his coaching badges in the next few months, although he jokingly (we think) suggests that he might reconsider his options if a big-money offer from China comes his way. "By next winter I hope to have earned my badges and have given myself options."
