The 3-1 loss in Basel also meant that there will be no European football at Anfield next year, with the victorious La Liga side taking their place in the Champions League rather than the Merseysiders, who finished eighth in the Premier League table.
Of course it's still very early days for Klopp, and many Liverpool fans will argue that the signs are extremely positive. Two cup finals in less than eight months in charge, with a squad he adopted from the previous manager, isn't too shabby at all.
But the fact that his team lost both the Capital One Cup and Europa League finals, allied with their disappointing league finish, has some sceptics already questioning whether the much-praised German is somewhat overhyped.
We'd humbly suggest that it's a bit too early to come to that conclusion, and that his CV prior to joining the Premier League speaks for itself. But this lot are of the firm opinion that we're all blinded by the positive media spin and that Klopp is in fact overrated...
