
Football has lost one of its most famous sons this afternoon with the sad news of Pavel Srnicek passing.
The former Newcastle goalkeeper suffered a serious heart attack while out jogging last week in the Czech Republic and was in a critical condition in hospital up until today

There had been a huge outpouring of support for the two-time Newcastle net-minder after the news, but sadly today it has been confirmed he has lost his battle for life at the age of just 47.

He enjoyed two spells in the north-east, his first between 1991 and 1998 and latterly when he was brought in as emergency cover for Shay Given in 2006.
He was most recently a goalkeeping coach for Sparta Prague.
