In the heat of the moment footballers can do some pretty stupid things.
But at least Joel Robles has the brain to admit he was very wrong to get involved with Manchester City's Kevin de Bruyne in last night's 3-1 League cup loss at the Etihad.
The Everton goalkeeper almost re-enacted the famous moment between Roy Keane and Alf Inge Haaland in 1997 when the Manchester United man was accused of faking an injury by the then Leeds player after an attempted tackle in the box went horribly wrong.

Last night the Belgian midfielder suffered a sickening knee injury midway through the second half when his leg appeared to bend at an awkward angle from his knee, with reports after the game suggesting he may have injured his medial, or worse, his cruciate knee ligaments.
While Robles did not quite accuse the Belgian of faking it in the style of the Norwegian, he did try and awkwardly pull him up off the ground with many fans seething at the attempt to further injure a player who was clearly in some distress.

However it was immediately clear that the former Chelsea man was not faking, and had sustained a serious injury, with Robles taking to Twitter after the game to apologise.
