Wayne Rooney has his say on Memphis Depay’s role in Chelsea equaliser

Manchester United came within minutes of a first victory over Chelsea in over three years on Sunday.

Having taken the lead through a goal from Jesse Lingard, United were pegged back by Diego Costa's stoppage time equaliser. Many United supporters pointed the finger at Memphis Depay for Chelsea's goal. The Dutchman had come into the game as a substitute and had the perfect opportunity to play team-mate Morgan Schneiderlin in for a second goal moments before the home side levelled.His pass was loose, and having regained possession, Chelsea scored from the resulting attack. Speaking about the events which led to the equaliser, United captain Wayne Rooney refused to blame Depay. "I think we're all disappointed," Rooney said after the game. "Memphis is a fantastic player and that happens, we all give bad passes away. A lot of things happened from when you give the ball away to when they've scored the goal, so I don't think we can stand here and blame Memphis." "I think there were other things which happened and why they've scored." United lost further ground on Leicester City, Arsenal and Tottenham in a title race that their manager Louis van Gaal claimed last week that they were still a part of.
