Davy Fitzgerald set to get straight back into inter-county management with shock move

Davy Fitzgerald is on the verge of taking over Wexford senior hurlers.

The Clare man is expected to be ratified on Friday night as the successor to Liam Dunne. After five years with his native Banner county where he delivered Liam McCarthy, the former goalkeeper stepped down last month and penned a heartfelt statement with his exit. However, in just a matter of weeks, Fitzgerald is set for a comeback to the inter-county setup. It is understood that Wexford representatives met with the Sixmilebridge man during the week about the job with the Model county and the decision is imminent. An All-Ireland senior championship hasn't returned to Wexford Park since 1996 and it is 12 years since the county's last Leinster success too. It's hard to get the breaks whenever you're the small fish. Maybe Davy can transform them into a big fish once more. UPDATE: On Friday evening, Wexford GAA have confirmed FitzGerald's appointment as senior manager on a three-year term with a review to take place after the first two years.
