Kilkenny legend pays ultimate GAA tribute to retiring Tipperary defender

Tipperary hurling has lost one of its best servants of the last decade this afternoon.

Conor O'Mahony has decided that his time in blue and gold has come to an end after a decade-long career with Tipperary. The 31-year-old, who claimed an All-Ireland medal in 2010, was regarded as one of the best defenders of the modern era and anchored several Tipperary teams from centre-back. The Newport clubman also claimed five Munster titles as well as helping the Premier county secure a League title in 2008. He made 42 appearances for his native county since making his debut in 2005, as well as winning two consecutive All-Star awards in 2008 and 2009. O'Mahony confirmed the news via a statement his morning,

"Having had the great honour of playing with Tipperary at all levels over the last 15 years, I have decided to call time on my inter-county hurling career. "It was a huge privilege for me to play with Tipperary. I will have great memories from my time as a Tipperary player and particularly of 2010 when we won the All Ireland senior hurling championship. I want to thank all the players on the panel in my time. "Finally, I want to wish Tipperary well for the future. I have no doubt this current group of players will go on to achieve many more successes. ”
