GAA fans were quick to correct Marty Morrissey's pronunciation during the Leinster senior hurling final.
Marty Morrissey thought he knew how to pronounce Willie Devereux's name when he working the commentary desk for the game between Wexford and Galway in Croke Park on Sunday.
If you're not from Wexford, you would be forgiven for not realising Morrissey was making a mistake by using the French pronunciation of the hurler's surname, but some people weren't ready to let it slide.
In that part of the country, there's only one way to pronounce the name... apparently.

Even the official Wexford GAA account felt obliged to confirm the proper pronunciation of Devereux while simultaneously praising the St Martin's club man.

As for Morrissey, he double-checked with some Wexford natives and realised his error.
According to the fans he spoke to, it's a South Wexford pronunciation of Devereux. He just assumed, as most people probably would, that it was pronounced the way it was spelt.
