Shock as former Kerry footballer Paddy Curtin dies after accident

Desperately sad news coming from Kerry this morning.

It's been confirmed that former Kerry footballer Paddy Curtin, who made 6 senior championship appearances for the Kingdom, has died after a road accident in Guatemala. The Moyvane clubman, who last played for Kerry in the 2013 championship game against Cavan in Croke Park, suffered serious head injuries in a road crash Christmas week. He was treated in Guatemala initially before being transferred to a hospital in Florida, and his family had flown out to be with him over the last number of days. He had been in Central America working for crane container company Liebherr who are based in Killarney. Curtin played full-forward for Kerry in 2012 and 2013, as well as representing his county at minor and U21 level. The news was confirmed on the Kerry GAA website this morning:

"It is with deep regret that Kerry GAA has learned of the death of Patrick Curtin of Moyvane. The 26 year old was injured in an accident while working in Guatemala before Christmas and was subsequently airlifted to Hospital in Miami where he passed away earlier today." "Patrick played in all grades of intercounty football with Kerry; He played Minor in 2006 and 2007, Under 21 in 2009 and 2010, Junior in 2009 and made his Senior Championship debut against Tipperary in 2012 having made his League debut earlier that year against Dublin. In all, Patrick made 6 Championship and 10 League appearances for the Kingdom. Kerry GAA extends its deepest sympathy to his family, friends and work colleagues and also to his Club, Moyvane."
