Camogie Made Me Ready for the Real World – The Final Round

Being in with the chance to play in Croke Park and win €7,000 for your club proved popular amongst our young camogie stars. All people had to do to enter was tell us how camogie made them ready for the real world, and the skills they’ve developed through the game. There have been some fantastic entries from clubs all over Ireland and the standard is pretty high. It wasn’t easy for us to narrow it down to our top five, but now it’s up to you to vote for your favourite. The club with the most votes will train with Team SportsJOE and take on Team Her in the half-time challenge of the Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship Final in Croke Park on Sunday, 9 September. There's a lot at stake with a massive €7,000 up for grabs, so make sure you vote for your favourite team and encourage your friends to do the same.

Kaci Toomey (Newmarket-on-Fergus Camogie Club)

A proud Clare girl from the town of Newmarket-on-Fergus, Kaci has a proud family history in the GAA. Her mother captained the club camogie side, and many moons ago her grandfather was called up to represent the County Clare senior hurling team. It's no surprise then that she would follow in their footsteps, and has learned strength, discipline and courage along her way to fulfilling her dream of playing in Croke Park.

Luisne Corey (Ballyea Camogie Club)

Another representative of the Banner County, camogie has taught Ballyea native Luisne how to always find a way to get back up, no matter how many times you're knocked down. Growing up with brothers and parents who love the GAA has fueled her passion, and she thinks of her teammates as her extended family. As she said herself, "Although I only have brothers, camogie has given me sisters."

Katie Fitzgerald (Ahascragh Caltra Camogie Club)

Representing County Galway is Katie Fitzgerald of Ahascragh Caltra, who dreams of playing the game at the highest level. She's here to score goals, take the frees and wear the coolest jerseys on offer. With such a clear idea of what she wants, we think there's a pretty cool maroon and white jersey that she'll be playing in sometime in the future!

Cara Phelan (Portlaoise Camogie Club)

Just like in school, camogie teaches us things we'll remember for life. You work hard at it, listen to your teachers and trainers, and give it 100%. Portlaoise's Cara Phelan has plenty of people around her who can help her along the way. Using what she learns both on the pitch and in the classroom will make her ready for whatever life throws her way.

Bette Carmeneza (Edendork GAC)

Born in East Timor, camogie was one of the most unlikely hobbies for Bette to take up. When she moved to Dungannon in seek of a better education, she ended up learning more about herself through this unique Irish sport than she ever could have imagined. She has changed her lifestyle, and pushes herself to her limits to make both her parents proud of her, and be proud of herself at the same time. The club that earns the most votes will be heading to the Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship Final in Croke Park. There, they will represent team SportsJOE against team Her in a half-time challenge match for a chance to win a whopping €7,000 for their club.
