The US Open has long been Phil Mickelson's white whale.
The charismatic American has put together one of the great golfing careers of the past 25 years, winning five major championships and a host of other PGA titles, all while existing in the very large shadow of one Tiger Woods.
But the one big prize to have eluded Mickelson is the US Open, in which he has finished second a heartbreaking, record six times.
So with Spieth the proud new owner of that very trophy following his victory at Chambers Bay in June, the 22-year-old finally has something to crow over when he teams with Justin Thomas against notorious trash-talker Mickelson and Rickie Fowler in tomorrow's practice round at Whistling Straits, site of this week's US PGA Championship.
"I'm going to try and get the US Open trophy flown in so I can sit on the front of each green for Phil," Spieth said.
"So I'll have something for him - just dishing it back. We'll see if we can get somebody to carry it around for the round. It's the first time I have something on him."
