Rory McIlroy confused with Bryson DeChambeau’s comments after Masters win

McIlroy didn't know "what he was expecting"

Rory McIlroy has addressed Bryson DeChambeau's comments on being ignored by the Irishman during the final round of the Masters in April.

The 36-year-old secured his first major since 2014 and was paired with the American, who shot a disappointing three over, on the final day at Augusta.

When asked how McIlroy was feeling after bogeying the 18th to leave him in a play-off with Justin Rose, DeChambeau said: “No idea. Didn’t talk to me once all day. He wouldn’t talk to me.”

During a press conference ahead of this week's PGA Championship, McIlroy was confused about how DeChambeau was expecting him to act at the Masters.

He said: "We were trying to win the Masters. I'm not going to try to be his best mate out there."

"Everyone approaches the game in different ways. I was focused on myself and what I needed to do, and that was really all that it was. It wasn't anything against him and it was what I felt I needed to do to try and get the best out of myself that day."
