Shane Lowry is taking the show on the road next year

Shane Lowry is going to chase his American Dream next year as he focuses on the PGA Tour.

The Offaly golfer has risen to number 18 in the world after a superb 2015, which saw him secure his PGA Tour card off the back of his brilliant win at the Bridgestone Invitational back in August. Lowry finished second in the British Masters last week and will compete on the European Tour's lucrative final series in Turkey, China and Dubai before taking a break over the new year. In 2016 he will concentrate on the PGA Tour before returning to Europe for the Irish Open at the K Club in May. Already sixth in the European Ryder Cup points table, Lowry will be relying on WGC events and the Masters to keep him in contention for Darren Clarke's team before his return in the summer.

“Depending on how I’m doing, I would hope to make the Ryder Cup on the World’s points list and that’s where I’m looking at now.

“If I’m close to it on the other list, I might change my schedule a little bit to try and make it on that, I’ll just have to see. The Ryder Cup is a massive goal, but its not the be-all and end-all for next year.

I think I just need to keep doing what I’m doing. I’m playing in big enough tournaments that if I keep doing what I’m doing I can definitely make that team and kick on up the world rankings and stuff like that,” said Lowry.

“This year has been a great year. I won a WGC, I’m fourth on the race to Dubai . It will be hard to top next year but playing the Ryder Cup I suppose, and competing in majors is the next kind of thing I want to do. I’m not necessarily fitting my schedule around competing in majors but when I do get to majors I know I really want to compete in those.”

Lowry will be cheering on the rugby team in Cardiff on Sunday before continuing his preparations for Turkish Airlines Open at the end of the month.
