Woods has missed all major tournaments for the past two years thanks to a back injury.
The American had fusion surgery to address the issue in April and claimed last week that he hasn't 'felt this good in years'.
"I want to say unequivocally, I want to play professional golf again," Woods said in a statement on his website on Wednesday.
"Presently, I'm not looking ahead. I can't twist for another two and a half to three months. Right now, my sole focus is rehab and doing what the doctors tell me. I am concentrating on short-term goals."
These revelations are the latest scandal to emerge in Woods' career and it appears increasingly unlikely that he will ever return to top level golf.
