Ruby Walsh victorious in return from broken leg

Five months ago Ruby Walsh broke his leg after a bad fall at Cheltenham.

In March, Ruby Walsh's mount Al Boum Photo came crashing down to Earth at the penultimate flight in the 2.10 RSA Chase. Cheltenham's most successful ever jockey landed awkwardly and the situation did not look good. The early suspicions were that it was a repeat injury to the same leg he broke at Punchestown. He remained on the ground for minutes in agony before being helped off the track by his father Ted. His pronounced limp had the racing world worried. Walsh made a successful return to action at the 2018 Galway Festival. He rode Easy Game to victory in the festival's opener, the galmont.com & galwaybayhotel.com Novice Hurdle.

Speaking to RTE after the win, Walsh was clearly thrilled to get back to winning ways. Although he admitted he had his doubts during the race.

"He jumped like a buck, he traveled really well. I suppose when you haven't ridden in a long time, you doubt yourself a bit in front as to how fast you're going - whether you're going too quick. He jumped super. He traveled well. It's great to be back. Pressure off."

Walsh also told a cute anecdote involving his young daughter, Gemma.

"Gemma is four and she said on the way over in the car, 'Daddy, please try not break your leg?'"
