With fewer options than he might have expected for his comeback fight, Conor McGregor has taken aim at Max Holloway for his defeat in the main event of UFC 236 last month.
Holloway came up short in a unanimous decision defeat to Dustin Poirier in their long-awaited rematch, having moved up to 155lbs in an attempt to become interim lightweight champion.
For the first time since his 2013 loss to McGregor, Holloway didn't get his hand raised in the Octagon and he would undoubtedly represent an interesting challenge for 'The Notorious' as the Irishman targets a return to the cage before the end of the year.
Both Holloway and McGregor are significantly better fighters than they were six years ago so a rematch would be worthy of a main event slot of any pay-per-view, even without a title on the line.
McGregor, who became the first-ever UFC fighter to simultaneously hold world titles in two different weight classes when he added the lightweight title to his featherweight belt in 2016, mocked Holloway for his inability to get the job done at 155lbs.

plan to book Tony Ferguson against Donald Cerrone at UFC 238, two potential comeback opponents for McGregor are no longer in the running while Khabib Nurmagomedov is set to meet Poirier in a unification clash in September.
While most fans are now looking at the likes of Justin Gaethje or the realisation of a trilogy with Nate Diaz, who recently submitted his first sample of 2019 to the United States Anti-Doping Agency, as McGregor's most likely next outing, a rematch with Holloway would be stylistically fascinating.
The build-up would also be intriguing as Holloway recently travelled to Ireland, where he gave a
masterclass in how to set up a red panty night.
