Conor McGregor probably won't care less, but Joanna Jedrzejczyk beat him to claiming a UFC record on Saturday night.
Jedrzejczyk annihilated Carla Esparza in the co-main event at UFC 185 last night. She consistently stuffed the Cookie Monster's takedown attempts and punished her over the course of the fight with her striking prowess. JJ's striking clinic earned her a dominant second-round TKO victory and the coveted women's strawweight belt.
While JJ's victory drummed up some much needed excitement for the newly-formed division, it came at a cost for fans of Conor McGregor.
The Dubliner takes on featherweight king Jose Aldo this summer and should the Notorious be victorious against Aldo, he would not only become the first Irish UFC champion but also the first ever non-heavyweight European champion in the promotion. Well, he would have been except JJ beat him to it.
He'll have to make do with the asterisk of being the first non-heavyweight male European UFC belt-holder following party-pooper Jedrzejczyk's stunning win. It just doesn't have the same ring to it.
