Following his sensational knockout of Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, McGregor was granted a boxing licence by the California State Athletic Commission, causing the super fight rumours to jolt back into life like Frankenstein's monster.
The 'glass half empty' brigade all assumed it was all just a clever play by McGregor to heap pressure on the promotion's new owners into giving him a bigger slice of that deliciously lucrative UFC pie. The less cynical folk among us took it on face value that it was the first step towards the huge crossover spectacle actually materialising.
One thing's for sure, Mayweather seems to be really enjoying being part of the incomparable McGregor circus.
